The agriculture sector plays a vital role in the economy as it is relied upon as the primary source of food for all citizens. In addition, some individuals rely on agriculture and agro-industry as a source of income and employment, especially in rural areas. In the last few decades, roughly a quarter of the world has transformed into crop production zones in order to increase yield for the ever-growing global population. For this reason, many regions have become skillful in modern techniques of increasing crop yield, such as using fertilizers, pesticides, and organic manure. Yet, in developing countries, low productivity rates continue to affect the agro-industry immensely adversely. Thus, improvements in agriculture and land use are fundamental in realizing food security, poverty mitigation, and sustainable development. Governments should also focus on sustainable agriculture as it can improve long-term crop production while leaving minimal effects on the environment. Therefore, there is a high demand for nations to find a good balance between the need for food production and conserving the ecological system.
